On December 21, 2024, history was made as the InterChris Foundation, formerly known as the InterChris Youth of Kenya, convened an inspiring gathering of over 300 dynamic young individuals from Nakuru County. Far more than a mere sporting competition, the event stood as a testament to the power of youth engagement, community solidarity, and a shared dedication to environmental conservation through the Youth for Land Restoration Agenda. Hosted at the Rift Valley National Polytechnic, the tournament transcended the boundaries of traditional sports events by seamlessly integrating athletic passion with a profound environmental message. It underscored the indispensable role of young people not only as participants but as visionary leaders and advocates for sustainable land management. The day was charged with enthusiasm as spirited competition on the field was matched by meaningful dialogue off it discussions centered on combating desertification, restoring degraded lands, and securing an ecologically balanced future for generations to come.
This was no ordinary occasion; it was the birth of a movement. A clarion call for the youth to embrace their responsibility as stewards of the environment, proving that sports can be a powerful vehicle for social and environmental transformation. The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the steadfast support of our valued partners: the Nakuru Endelevu Trust Initiative (NETI), the Nakuru County Youth Bunge Forum, #GROOTSKENYA, and the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology. Their collaboration was instrumental in transforming vision into action, setting the stage for even greater collective achievements in the years ahead. We were also honored by the presence of distinguished guests who lent their expertise and encouragement to this noble cause. Special gratitude is extended to Mr. Edward Mwasi, former communication expert at Nation Media Group; Mr. Raymond Patrick, Board Member and representative of the Nakuru Endelevu Trust Initiative; and Mr. Nicholas Mutai, Human Resource Manager at Tenwek Hospital. Their participation not only elevated the event but also served as a powerful affirmation of the potential within Kenya’s youth to drive meaningful change. The resounding success of this gathering reaffirms a vital truth: when young people are empowered, mentored, and united by a common purpose, they become an unstoppable force for progress. As we reflect on this milestone, let us carry forward the same vigor and determination to advance youth-led solutions for a greener, more sustainable future. The journey has only just begun. Together, we will continue to champion innovation, leadership, and environmental resilience ensuring that the voices and actions of young people remain at the heart of Kenya’s sustainable development.
